THE new name has been revealed for CLIC Sargent’s new Home from Home in Glasgow.

As previously told in the Evening Times, the house at the new Royal Hospital for Sick Children is set to open in August.

And charity bosses have now revealed it will be called Marion's House after Marion O’Gorman, co-founder of Children with Cancer UK, which has donated funds to CLIC Sargent.

Caroline Blakely, CEO of Children with Cancer UK, said: “We are delighted to support Marion’s House in Glasgow.

"These important facilities provide exceptional support for children, young people and their families when they are in the greatest need.”

Each year around 300 children and young people are diagnosed with cancer in Scotland.

During treatment, which can last up to three years, Marion’s House will provide free self-catering accommodation just a short walk away from the new Royal Hospital for Sick Children.

Some families face a gruelling 60 mile round trip, on average, often many days a week, for their children to receive treatment at a specialist hospital.

The previous Home from Home sat next to Yorkhill Hospital but was forced to move by the relocation of the children's hospital next to the new Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

Ellen Finlayson, CLIC Sargent’s Assistant Director for Scotland and Northern Ireland, added: “We’re thrilled to announce the name of our new Home from Home in Glasgow.

"The support we’ve had from Children with Cancer UK has been fantastic, so the name is fitting.

“Our Homes from Home will provide vital support to families whose lives have been turned upside down, with a homely, supportive and friendly place to stay during treatment at the hospital, ensuring that families can be together.”

CLIC Sargent launched its £3million Scotland Homes from Home Appeal in November 2013 to ensure it can continue to provide free accommodation near to the new children’s hospital in Glasgow, and the new children’s hospital in Edinburgh, moving in 2017.

Marion’s House has 11 en-suite bedrooms with communal kitchens and lounges; an area specifically for young people to relax and meet other young people and a play area for younger residents.
