NICOLA Sturgeon revealed she was a Duran Duran fan as she recalled the last gig at the Barrowlands she attended.

The First Minister told of her 80s pop allegiance during a campaign visit to Barrowlands Park where the names and dates of every show at the famous venue are listed on a path.

She told photographers the last Barras gig she was at was by the Girls on Film and Rio pop superstars in 1993.

Ms Sturgeon walked up and down the path looking for the entry and was about give up when she noted they were not listed in chronological order.

Then she found it and pointed and said “There it is, Duran Duran, 1993.”

Ms Sturgeon was then asked who her favourite of the five-piece band was.

Dismissing the front man Simon le Bon and girls’ favourite, guitarist John Taylor, she said her favourite was drummer Roger Taylor.

Ms Sturgeon was meeting candidates in the four upcoming Glasgow City Council by elections.

She said she was hopeful of building on the SNP’s General Election success.

She said: “Given the result in the General Election obviously we are optimistic we can win these by elections and in so doing ensuring there continues to be a strong and even stronger opposition to Labour in the city chambers.”
