AN ELDERLY woman was left shaken following a bold daylight attack.

The 73-year-old pensioner was walking along Govanhill’s Allison Street at about 12.40pm on Thursday when a man grabbed her necklace, which had two rings on it.

The heartless thief made off down the street with the jewellery.

A member of the public gave chase after the thief - and now police are appealing for that person to come forward.

Constable Ian Taylor, Community Investigation Unit, Pollok, is leading the enquiry. He said: “Although the chain and the two rings, described as gold bands, one with whites stones embedded in the band and the other with a gold heart and red stone embedded on it, are not of any significant monetary value, they are of great personal value to the lady involved.

“The man responsible had been with a group of others on Allison St just before he confronted the lady and robbed her.

"We know from CCTV that a member of the public gave chase.

"So far we have not traced them and would appeal for him or her to come forward.”

The suspect is described as male, of Eastern European appearance, 5ft 10in, medium build, with short dark hair and was wearing a black zip jacket.

The pensioner was pounded on near to Allison Street's junction with Westmoreland Street.

She was walking alone when the man suddenly approached her from the front before grabbing the necklace and rings and pulling hard on it to pull it off.

He then ran off east along Allison Street. The woman is said to have been left shaken by the ordeal, although she was not physically injured.

Any witnesses or those with information are asked to contact the Community Investigation Unit at Pollok Police Office via the 101 number.
