AN AIR ambulance was scrambled after people were trapped in their vehicles after a road crash.
Four people were taken to hospital following a collision on the A73 near Newhouse in North Lanarkshire on Monday morning.
Scottish Fire and Rescue Service sent crews from Bellshill and Coatbridge at around 9am.
Station Manager Stephen Lanaghan, said: "Personnel from each of the emergency services worked extremely closely throughout this incident.
"Firefighters used hydraulic rescue equipment to free a man from one of the vehicles and a woman from the other.
"An air ambulance was in attendance and medical personnel provided treatment to the casualties before they were removed from the vehicles.
"While firefighters and paramedics worked side-by-side to ensure their safe release, police officers closed the road in both directions to protect the casualties, the emergency crews and also other road users."
Ambulances took the woman and two of the men to Wishaw General Hospital and a third man to Monklands Hospital.
