Thieves crept into 14 tents while the occupants slept and stole cash and valuables during a weekend music festival, police have said.

More than £1,200, four mobile phones, a camera, a Kindle Fire, a jacket and credit and debit cards were taken from tents in the green camping area at the Wickerman Festival in the early hours of yesterday.

The event, near Dundrennan in Dumfries and Galloway, featured the likes of The Waterboys, Tom Odell, Lulu and Neneh Cherry.

Police Scotland appealed for information about the thefts.

Constable Laurie Clark said: "Clearly, thieves have been at work during the early hours of Sunday morning and the family areas of a number of tents have been entered and cash and items stolen.

"We want to hear from anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in the green camping area during this time. Police Scotland at Castle Douglas can be contacted through 101."

The festival was held on July 24 and 25 and featured the burning of a giant statue inspired by the horror film The Wickerman.
