A TWISTED blaze thug who went on a bizarre car torching spree is being hunted by police.

Detectives have launched a probe after the motors were torched within a matter of hours in Glasgow city centre.

Police have been left baffled by the fires, which were deliberately started from inside the vehicles.

Emergency services were alerted to the first blaze in an Anderston car park early on Monday morning.

A nightshift worker raised the alarm at 1.15am, when he discovered his Chevrolet car had been set alight near India Street.

Fire crews raced to the scene, but the fire had already spread to a nearby car.

Around six hours later, police were called to a report of a second car fire in nearby Claremont Street.

Officers are now linking the incidents and revealed CCTV images show a man loitering in the area around the time of the fires.

Police sources said he was spotted trying to gain access to three other vehicles.

The suspect is described as between 20 and 30-years-old, of average build, with short dark hair.

He was wearing dark clothing with a hood.

Witnesses have been asked to come forward and contact police.

Inspector Gavin Smith, from Stewart Street Police Office, said: "We received a report of a Chevrolet car being found alight in a car park, near India Street, Glasgow, at around 1.15am on Monday.

"At around 7.50am on the same day, a Vauxhall Astra was also found with fire damage to the interior in Claremont Street.

"Investigations are ongoing, however our inquiries show someone has entered the vehicle overnight.

"It is a priority to identify and detain the suspect, who created an enormous risk for themselves, the public and the emergency services.

"Did anyone return home with burned clothing or smelling of smoke or petrol?

"Anyone with information should contact Police Scotland on 101."

Detectives are reviewing CCTV footage in a bid to identify the suspect.

Footage from security cameras has been secured and issued to specialist intelligence cops who may be able to identify the fire-starter.
