MISSING Glasgow dad John Murphy was "spotted" at a country park weeks after he vanished, the Evening Times can reveal.

A man claimed he saw the 52-year-old leaving Cathkin Braes two weeks ago.

Father-of-five Mr Murphy from Dennistoun, vanished 11 weeks ago today and has not been seen since.

His anguished family told how the new sighting has given them fresh hope.

Son John, 25, said: "A man came forward and said he saw my dad a couple of weeks ago coming out of Cathkin Braes, near to Ardencraig Road in Castlemilk.

"He said he is 100% sure it was him and police are taking it really seriously."

Since the Mr Murphy vanished, a massive search - aided by dozens of locals across Glasgow - has failed to find any trace of him.

Police, who are the mystery disappearance, have launched a search of the country park and the force helicopter has been drafted in.

Glasgow Times:

John added: "Police have been out there searching on dirt bikes, they had a helicopter circling the park, and they are trying to get CCTV footage.

"His face is thinner than the photos we have released and he has facial growth as well.

"But this guy is completely convinced it was my dad."

We previously told how the family have plastered Glasgow with more than 25,000 posters in a bid to find their missing dad.

Mr Murphy went missing on May 12.

He was last seen by his family at their home in Craigpark Drive before he went to bed the night before.

He is believed to have left his home early, and was thought to be heading to work at Easthall Park Housing Cooperative.

However, he never arrived and his family raised the alarm later that evening when he failed to return home.

When he left his home, he is believed to have been wearing a beige T-shirt, embroidered with Easthall Park's logo, a black jacket, black cargo trousers and black boots.

CCTV images showed him entering a local shop in Duke Street at about 7am on May 12.

A few minutes later he emerged with a paper and appeared to be heading to get the bus to work.

However, he then disappears from view and it is unclear which direction he walks in next.

Chief Inspector David Pettigrew has repeatedly urged anyone with information about Mr Murphy's disappearance to contact police.

He said: "John's family and friends are distraught at his disappearance, which is being felt so keenly within the community."

Earlier this month, police confirmed a man caught on CCTV in a city supermarket is not Mr Murphy.

Officers had released images of a man visiting a Lidl supermarket in Duke Street.

However, they have now established the man in the pictures is not the 52-year-old.
