PLANS have been lodged for another Krispy Kreme outlet for Greater Glasgow.

Following the Evening Times exclusively revealing a new American donut outlet is to open in Braehead shopping centre, the firm has submitted a planning application to Glasgow City Council.

The application does not name Krispy Kreme - but an artists impression of the new store clearly shows the company's distinctive branding.

Chief marketing officer at Krispy Kreme UK Judith Denby remained coy about the plans but said: "The reception we received when we arrived in Scotland was overwhelming so we’re really looking forward to bringing the joy of Krispy Kreme to intu Braehead, in Renfrewshire, near Glasgow, later this year.

"We’re also actively looking for further sites in Scotland. We will keep our fans updated as and when we secure sites."

The Evening Times exclusively revealed in April that Krispy Kreme is to open at Braehead with work on the £500,000 store beginning at the site in June

The famous American firm was granted planning permission subject to conditions by Renfrewshire Council to turn the former Clydebuilt Scottish Maritime Museum at Braehead into a giant doughnut restaurant.

It will be the third Krispy Kreme in Scotland following in the footsteps of the Edinburgh and Livingston branches.

New store openings are renowned for causing a stir with hundreds queueing overnight to sample the deep fried goods.

Hundreds queued for the opening of the first Scottish store at Hermiston Gait in 2013 causing lengthy traffic jams on the city bypass and the M8.

The new Silverburn store, if council planners give it the green light, will sit in the food court next to Auntie Anne's.
