A KNIFE thug who tried to kill a man in a street attack was today being hunted by police.

The 40-year-old victim was repeatedly stabbed by his attacker during the brawl in Glasgow's East End.

Shocked neighbours in Budhill Avenue, Shettleston, are understood to have raised the alarm yesterday evening.

Emergency services, including police and paramedics, raced to the scene and found the seriously injured man lying in the road.

He was rushed to Glasgow Royal Infirmary at around 6.45pm.

Medics today described his condition as "stable".

However, police are treating the attack as attempted murder and have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

A police spokeswoman said: "Police responded to reports of a disturbance in Budhill Avenue, in Glasgow, at around 6.45pm on Tuesday July 28.

"A 40-year-old man sustained serious injuries and was taken to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

"His condition is described as stable.

"The incident is currently being treated as attempted murder.

"Extensive police inquiries are continuing and anyone with any information is asked to contact officers on 101."
