FANS of the unusual type have shown up to support Pollok Football Club at their Newlandsfield grounds.

The club have had major problems with foxes digging up the pitch and causing disruption to games.

And our photographer caught the animals in action.

Stuart McCulloch, Assistant Secretary of Pollok FC spoke of the problem which has been disrupting the club for some time now.

He said: “We have mesh fencing which gives the fox’s easy access onto the pitch.

“We tried to fix the fencing, to make it more secure so no more could get in but unfortunately it hasn’t worked.

“It must be a very clever fox.”

The foxes were hard at work on Tuesday night, causing the team to have to cancel last night’s game.

Mr McCulloch continued: “Normally if they dig a hole we manage to patch it up for the upcoming game but there was no time to fix it before the match.

“This is the first time we’d have to cancel a game.

“Hopefully it will be fixed soon as we have a game to play on Saturday.”

Foxes present a list of problems for many neighbourhoods and are known to make dens in spaces under houses, sheds and outbuildings.

They can also mark their territory with unpleasant scent and droppings, raid waste or compost bins and can eat small pets, like rabbits

The grounds men have spent many occasions trying the patch up the mess the foxes have made however Mr McCulloch is concerned the animals will continue to dig creating more work for those in charge of the pitch.

He said: “As soon as one hole is patched up they could go somewhere else and dig another so we are trying to address the issue and make our fencing more secure.”

The club has been running since 1908 and are a semi-professional team.
