THE UK'S youngest MP Mhairi Black took part in a team selfie to celebrate 25 years of a charity programme.

The MP for Paisley and South Renfrewshire met a group of young people from the Prince’s Trust Team programme in Paisley, to celebrate 25 years of the scheme in Scotland.

Ms Black recently became an internet sensation, after her maiden speech was viewed 10 million times online. She met a group of young people from her local community who have completed a12-week personal development course that helps young people gain the confidence and skills they need to move into work or training.

Run across Scotland, the programme is supported by Barclays and local education and community partners. Figures released by the youth charity, highlight that three in four young people move into jobs and training after three months of completing the programme.

Last year, it supported 850 young people.

The group in Paisley, in partnership with West College Scotland, undertook a range of practical and on-the-job training including, a team building residential at Lochgilhead Scout, volunteering in the community at the local care home and St.Vincent’s Hospice, and work placements.

The MP took a ‘teamie’ with young people, as part of the youth charity’s nationwide campaign #LoveMyTeam to celebrate 25 years of the Team programme.

Previously, Judy Murray took a ‘teamie’ with other Team participants.

Ms Black said: “It’s great to see what change can be made to young people’s lives when they are given a chance.

"There are a lot of people who I know from personal experience that can be written off by society but the minute you give them some confidence they will grow into achieving great things.

"This is exactly why programme like The Prince’s Trust Scotland Team programme is important to help young people.”

Kieran, 18, from Paisley on the Team programme said: “My advice for other young people would be to have a positive attitude and give it ago. It has been brilliant – I would recommend it to any young person who is looking to improve their skills and confidence.”
