AN investigation is underway after the body of a man was was discovered on the beach in Ayr earlier today.
At around 7.30am, police were called to a report of the body of a man found on the shoreline near to Greenan Castle.
A post mortem examination will be carried out to establish the exact cause of death, however the death is being treated as unexplained at this time.
The man was described as white, 5ft 8 inches in height and of medium build and aged in his 50s with short greying hair.
He was wearing a blue hooded zipped top, blue denims and black trainers.
Officers at Ayr Police Office are urging anyone who may have seen a man matching this description in the local area, or anyone with information on his identity to contact Police Scotland on 101.
