THE Merchant City Festival draws to a close on Sunday after a week of fun and frolics for all the family.

Today and tomorrow, visitors will be able to enjoy outdoor performances, live music, fashion and design, comedy, dance, family events, film, visual arts, markets and outstanding dishes as part of Scotland's Year of Food and Drink.

Among the highlights are a dance-along to the film Northern Soul at the Old Fruitmarket, a living stage in Greyfriars Garden will host Uprooted which is a live performance aimed at families and Circ:us will fuse acrobatics, aerial work and physical theatre at the Briggait.

George Square will host come and try sessions and over the weekend there will be visits from Commonwealth medallists.

The Brunswick Street live stage offers a diverse programme of established artists and breaking bands and and the Blackfriars stage will also provide live music.

Dramatic hair sculpting team Osadia bring their show back to Merchant Square and are looking for anyone brave enough to sit in the barber's chair.

Tontine Lane features the Heverlee Belgian Beer Cafe Bar, pop up dining, art installations, cinematic projections and a street food festival.

So far more than 70,000 people have taken advantage of the entertainment on offer.

City council leader Gordon Matheson said: "The Merchant City Festival has already welcomed some wonderful performances, events and the unforgettable premieres of Fragile where over 20 dancers and three JCBs entertained thousands at a time.

"It is still not too late to get involved and enjoy everything the Merchant City has to offer this weekend, including live music, come and try sports, comedy and great food and drink.

"Many of the performances are free and with so much going on, there really is something for everyone."
