A teenager was rushed to hospital yesterday after suffering a neck injury in an alleged incident involving an air rifle.

Police cordoned off a section of Hollybrook Street in Govanhill at 7.30pm and arrested another teenager.

An ambulance was sent to the scene and a 17-year-old man was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Govan for treatment.

Police arrested another 17-year-old man and an air rifle was later seized by officers.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: “We can confirm that police were called to a report that a 17-year-old male was injured following the discharge of an air rifle in Hollybrook Street, Govanhill, at 7.30pm last night.

“He was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment to a neck injury.

“Another 17-year-old male was arrested in relation to the alleged incident and later released.

“A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal and an air rifle was confiscated by police.”

A spokesman for the Scottish Ambulance Service said: “Two resources attended at 7.30pm and one 17-year-old male was transported to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.”

The 17-year-old man who was arrested is expected to appear in court “at a later date”, according to the police spokeswoman.
