POLICE are hunting cruel thieves who attacked and robbed a homeless man.

The 54-year-old was alone in Sandbed Lane, Kilmarnock, when the two thugs approached him and swiped his bag of belongings.

Police said the suspects also assaulted him during the incident.

It happened at around 1.10am on Friday and detectives have urged any witnesses to come forward.

The first suspect is described as a white man, in his mid-20s, who was fresh-faced, around 5ft 6in tall, with light brown hair.

At the time of the incident, he was wearing a peach or pink polo top and light coloured trousers.

The second suspect is described as a white man, between 35 and 40-years-old.

He is between 5ft 10in and 6 ft tall.

He is described as stocky, with black hair and was wearing a black top with grey jogging bottoms.

Police said the suspects were last seen in Sandbed Street and were heading in the direction on Bank Street.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Anyone who has information that could help identify the two suspects is asked to contact police on 101."

The victim was not seriously injured and did not require medical attention.
