WHISKY lovers worldwide will have their eyes on Glasgow next week as one of the UK's biggest private collections goes under the hammer.
The 740 bottle collection, which contains a selection of some of world's rarest malts, is expected to fetch in excess of £100,000 when it goes to the highest bidder at McTear's Auctioneers.
It is being sold by an anonymous Yorkshire based collector and includes six of the early bottlings of Gordon & MacPhail’s Connoisseurs Choice range, with valuations from £100 to £300, as well as a significant number of Cadenhead’s black label expressions from the 1950s and 1960s.
The single malts include a rare Laphroaig valued at £400-£600, a Talisker at £600-£800, a Highland Park with a value of £300-£400, a Glen Garioch valued at £400-£500), and a Glen Rothes at £300-£400.
The collection also contains hundreds of blended whiskies from past decades, many in pre-metric sized bottles.
McTear's whisky specialist, Stephen McGinty, said: "This is a quite spectacular collection that has been built up over four decades. Not only is the size of the collection impressive but the quality of the bottles is quite superb.
"The collection presents a spectrum of malt and blended whisky production and packaging styles and we expect considerable interest from collectors at home and abroad."
The McTear's Rare and Collectable whisky sale will take place on Wednesday 12th August at 10.30am.
