A LUXURY designer with famous fans including Emma Stone and Michelle Obama is set to open a store in Glasgow.

A branch of Michael Kors is being fitted out in Buchanan Street.

Workers are preparing the store, which is next to a branch of Karen Millen and the Argyll Arcade.

The store is currently recruiting and is asking people interested in working at the shop to email eurecruitment@michaelkors.com, quoting MK Glasgow Buchanan Street.

It is the latest in a long line of up-market shops that have moved into the city.

Among the designer outlets already in place are Hugo Boss, in the former GPO building in Ingram Street, as well as Cruise, Agent Provocateur and Jaeger.

The city also boasts a branch of celebrity favourite Mulberry and Ralph Lauren.

The Michael Kors shop will be near to the city’s Princes Square which has a clutch of up-market retailers, including Cos, Whistles, Radley and Reiss.

The store is set to be the third in Scotland - after Edinburgh and Aberdeen.

The brand is celebrated for its accessories - the bestselling Selma bag sells for £260, while the updated version, the Sophie, sells for £345.

The news has been welcomed by city officials, who say it will add to Glasgow’ growing reputation for shopping and style.

A spokesman for Glasgow City Marketing Bureau said: “We’re delighted that such a prestigious and iconic brand as Michael Kors has chosen to come to Glasgow and we look forward to welcoming them to Buchanan Street.

“Glasgow is Scotland’s style capital. With more than 1500 shops and a ‘style mile’ that is home to some of the world’s biggest brands, it’s little wonder that we’re the largest, most successful shopping destination outside of London’s West End and a first-choice centre for major retailers and fashion-conscious consumers.”

“Some of Britain’s greatest young fashion designers, including Christopher Kane, Jonathan Saunders and William Chambers hail from Glasgow and we’re no stranger to high-end international designers either – Michael Kors is the latest in an impressive list which includes Ralph Lauren, Armani, Burberry, Mulberry, Gucci, Hermes, Vivienne Westwood, Stella McCartney, Hugo Boss and Agent Provocateur.”

“Louis Vuitton even featured Glasgow as a must-visit retail, cultural and style centre in their coveted European Cities Guide – the only Scottish city to have appeared in the guide twice in 2009 and 2013.

“One thing we know is that style never goes out of fashion and the same can be said about Glasgow.”
