A GLASGOW blogger is hoping to become the UK's next top stylist after securing a place in the finals of a national competition.

Sheri Scott, 29, who is behind the blog Forever Yours Betty, has reached the final 12 in Stylist magazine's Fiesta Stylista challenge.

Sheri is the only Scot in the semi-final and she beat off competition from more than 1000 people thanks to her clever use of colour and styling tricks.

The winner will design their own Stylist front cover, attend New York Fashion week and take home a £10,000 cash prize.

Sheri, who also co-runs a public relations agency, entered the competition with a styled look on Instagram.

In her first entry she flew the flag for Scottish designers by wearing Glasgow Vintage Co trousers and a top by Dundee designer Hayley Scanlon. She accessorised with a bag by British designer Luna on the Moon, a Topshop polo neck and Debenhams shoes.

The remaining 12 contestants were then set a styling challenge for a chance to make the final four.

The budding stylists were split into groups - boho, florals and utility - and given a trend to work from.

Sheri was placed in the boho group – and she recently went to London to be photographed for the magazine.

Three finalists will be chosen by the panel of judges, and whoever of the remaining semi-finalists has the most votes from the public will get the accelerator pass – giving them an automatic place in the final.

Sheri, who is inspired by cartoons and street style, is a champion of independent designers, which she mixes with vintage and high street pieces.

She said: “I don’t really like to plan what I wear. I like to wake up in the morning and see what will enhance my mood.

“So when I went to London I took a few options. I took pieces by Glasgow designer Danni McWilliams and from the shop City Retro Vintage.

“On the day I went for pieces by Aymee Charlton and John and Pearl Jewellery, who are from Glasgow.”

Sheri is urging Scots to get behind her and vote.

She said she would use the opportunity to raise awareness of indepdent brands.

“I think a lot of people are just thinking about the money and New York Fashion Week," Sheri said.

"Obviously they are great prizes but I would like the chance to showcase indepedent designers on the front cover of Stylist.

“It’s one of the most popular fashion magazines read by a huge demographic so it would really raise the profile of these designers."

Sheri's tips for styling are to take it slowly, have confidence and enjoy what you're wearing.

She said: "I would advise people not to go too far out of their comfort zone too quickly because if you're not confident in what you're wearing it shows.

"Research people whose styles you admire and experiment with colour and different designers."

The issue featuring Sheri and the other boho finalists is out on August 24.
