A man was rushed to hospital last night after he was seriously assaulted while eating a take-away in Greenock.
The 22-year-old was standing eating a takeaway with another person at the public stairs at Shaw Place at 7.40pm when a man approached and attacked him, reports the Greenock Telegraph.
After the attack, the victim and his associate escaped towards Ann Street and emergency services were contacted.
The victim was rushed to Inverclyde Royal Hospital where he received several stitches for facial injuries.
Detective Inspector David Wagstaff at Greenock CID said: “A 22-year-old man was seriously assaulted after being struck, possibly by a knife, and he received lacerations to his face.
“He was taken to hospital where several stitches were inserted into the wound.
“Enquiries are at an early stage but the attacker is described as being male, 6ft tall with dark hair and was possibly wearing a jumper and jeans.
“This appears to be a targeted attack.
“Anyone with information about the incident is asked to phone police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
