A GROUP of talented youngsters from Coatbridge have been named world champions in a top dance competition.

New Kidz from the Mad Dance studios picked up the under 14 novice title at the 10th World Street Dance Championships.

Thousands of street dance fans and dancers travelled to the city to battle it out for one of the coveted awards.

Dance crews from Europe, China, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Canada and the US took on homegrown talent from Scotland and the rest of the UK.

The competition which was being held in Glasgow for the third year attracted around 6000 competitors from 30 countries

The picture will be of dancers from New Kidz, from the Mad Dance studios in Coatbridge, who were named under 14 novice world champions.

Thousands of street dance fans and dancers are in Glasgow this weekend to battle it out for the honours at the 10th World Street Dance Championships and to enjoy Dance Show Live!

Dance crews from Europe, China, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Canada and the US will take on homegrown talent from Scotland and the rest of the UK on their own turf as they fight it out with some fancy footwork.

With 6,000 dancers from 30 countries registered for the event, the competition is celebrating its third year in Glasgow and will transform the city into the global home of street dance.

World renowned break dancer Victor Mengarelli is looking to reclaim his title for the greatest number of consecutive hand hops and will attempt to break the current Guinness World Record – which stands at 133 times – at the SECC in Glasgow. Victor previously broke this record in 2007 with 93 consecutive hand hops.
