A man was attacked by a screwdriver when he answered the door of his home to two robbers.

The 29-year-old suffered head and facial injuries when a man and woman leapt on him with the weapon just after midnight on Sunday morning.

The Gazette reports he bravely attempted to fight off the attackers before the man stormed into his flat in Orchard Street, Renfrew and stole hundreds of pounds worth of his belongings.

Two expensive mobile phones, including a Samsung Galaxy S5 and HTC desire phone, plus a small quantity of cash were taken during the robbery.

Police officers raced to his property shortly after the victim contacted them and he was taken to hospital for treatment.

During the attack, the man suffered lacerations to his face and neck, thought to have been caused by a screwdriver.

Police are still hunting the two suspects but said they are following a “positive” line of enquiry.

Inspector Stevie Espie, of Johnstone Community Police, added: “This is not being treated as a random attack.

“CID and police arrived at the scene shortly after the incident and carried out extensive enquiries, including door-to-door enquiries over the weekend in a bid to catch the culprits.

“Luckily the victim suffered only minor injuries but we would appeal for anyone who has information to get in touch.”
