POLICE detained a suspected mugger who allegedly threatened a tourist with a syringe during a street robbery.
The 30-year-old man, who is understood to have been staying in a nearby hotel, was targeted in Glasgow city centre, as he smoked a cigarette, late last night.
He was approached by a man in James Watt Street and was allegedly threatened with a syringe.
The suspect robber then fled the scene and the alarm was raised when the man returned to his hotel room.
A short time later, a 37-year-old man was detained by police.
The Evening Times understands a quantity of jewellery and sum of cash, which were allegedly stolen during the incident, have since been recovered.
A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Police received a report of a robbery in James Watt Street, Glasgow, at around 10.10pm on Tuesday September 1.
“A 37-year-old man has been detained in connection with the incident.”
