VISITORS to a city park who take a rest on one of its benches are likely to hear only the sound of silence.

The idyllic spot in Pollok Country Park has been named one of the 10 quietest locations in the city.

Councillor Liz Cameron, chairwoman of Glasgow's Green Year, will tomorrow unveil a Green Year quiet bench in the park.

The 10 quietest spots in the city are all, not surprisingly, in one of the city's 90 parks.

Mrs Cameron said: "Cities are bustling, exciting places to live and work. However it is sometimes important for our city citizens to be able to find some peace and unwind in the urban environment.

"With Glasgow working to become one of the most sustainable cities in Europe, we are aware of the importance of promoting areas for people to get away from it all.

"We are so very lucky in Glasgow to have so many parks and green spaces close to where we live and work that allow us to enjoy nature and a bit of peace.

"This bench will be the first of 10 which will be placed in Glasgow's quiet areas over the coming months as a legacy of Glasgow's Green Year 2015 which we hope Glaswegians and visitors will enjoy.

All 10 benches were already in place in city parks but were given a new lease of life, recycled and branded for the project.

The public are being encouraged to find the bench in Pollok Country Park on the path at the top corner gate at the wall garden, take a selfie on the bench and share it on the Green Year twitter account @greenglasgow.

The other quiet areas are in Knightswood, Ruchill, Springburn and Hogganfield parks, Cardowan Moss, Bishop Loch, Greenfield and Kings parks and the Big Wood in Cathkin Braes Country Park.
