A GOVAN street which has been shut for months because of roadworks has finally re-opened.

Last week, the Evening Times revealed traders in Kingston Street feared they would be forced to shut up shop because of the works outside their premises.

Scottish Water started work in March and was due to be finished by May but engineering problems and burst mains caused unexpected delays.

Shopkeepers were told it would be August before the job was finished but it was extended again.

However yesterday the section of Kingston Street between Centre Street and Tradeston Street finally re-opened.

The work being carried out was part of a five year £250million project to improve the waste water infrastructure across the city.

A Scottish Water spokesman said: "The delays in the lifting of the road closure in Kingston Street were due to some burst water mains and heavy rainfall in recent months.

"We apologise for any inconvenience the road closure caused and thank affected customers, businesses and road users for their patience and understanding.”
