A Jack Russell was heartlessly dumped in a Coatbridge park with a bag full of his belongings.

The Scottish SPCA is now caring for the dog who was left tied up in a Drumpellier Country Park on August 29.

The three-year-old male dog, named Rio, is now in the care of the charity's animal rescue and rehoming centre in Hamilton.

Centre assistant manager Lorraine Alba said: "Rio was sadly left with a carrier bag full of his belongings. His lead, food bowl, brush, toy and shampoo were all inside.

"This is a heartbreaking case as it seems whoever did this wanted Rio to have all his possessions.

"It may be that his owner's circumstances changed and they were no longer able to look after him but we must stress that abandoning an animal is an offence.

"We are very glad Rio was found by someone kind who helped him and we'll care for him until we can find him a loving new home."
