SCHOOL pupils have been offered counselling following the sudden death of one of their classmates.

Teenager Gregor Lamb was found unconscious by family members at his home and emergency services were called but he could not be saved.

The 16-year-old Strathaven Academy pupil was a keen rugby player and believed to be a member of Avondale and District Young Farmers Club.

Tributes have poured in for the well-liked fifth year pupil and Strathaven Rugby club said a book of condolence will be opened in his honour.

Eve Morton wrote on Twitter: "RIP Gregor Lamb. I'm so sorry about what happened. I can't believe it. Please send prayers to the family. This is a horrible event. So upset."

Ruari Yeoman added: "Been a tragic day for Strathaven as a community today. Been great to see everyone come together at a time like this. RIP Gregor."

Hayley, owner of Vintage Violet in the village, said: "The shop and all of Strathaven has been horrible today thoughts are with the family. RIP Gregor."

Police Scotland said Gregor's death was not being treated as suspicious.

A spokeswoman said: "A post mortem will be carried out to examine the cause of death and a report will be sent to the procurator fiscal."

A South Lanarkshire Council spokesman said: "The council is aware of this incident and is offering all possible support to pupils and staff at the school.”
