HOTEL and airport bosses in Glasgow have been celebrating a summer of soaraway success.

In June, a monthly survey found hotel occupancy in the city was the highest in Scotland at 91.5% with revenue up 21%.

And last month Glasgow Airport reported its 30 consecutive month of growth with passenger numbers up 12.3% on the same period last year.

Almost 3m passengers used the airport during the peak summer months of June, July and August resulting in its busiest summer in seven years.

Domestic traffic increased by almost 11% while international traffic was up by more than 13%.

Glasgow Airport managing director Amanda McMillan, said: "August was an outstanding month for Glasgow Airport.

"As well as unveiling new routes to Salzburg and Exeter, we officially opened our new £3.3m east pier extension which enables us to accommodate an additional 750,000 passenger per year.

"September is already shaping up to be equally exciting with the launch of our new Virgin Atlantic service to Las Vegas as well as two new routes to Vilnius and Lublin with Wizz Air.

"The city will also welcome thousands of visitors for the Davis Cup at the Emirates Arena which reinforces Glasgow's position as a top sporting destination."

Accountants and business advisers BDO LLP surveyed hotel accommodation across Scotland for June and found Glasgow at the top of the league table.

Alastair Rae, a partner in the company's property, leisure and hospitality sector, said: "Glasgow's hospitality sector had an excellent June with very high occupancy and extremely strong revenue growth due to a wide range of events and conferences during the month.
