TENANTS have moved into the first new homes Cube Housing Association has built in four years.

The £5.5million development of 54 energy-efficient properties is at Beardmore Place in Dalmuir on the banks of the Forth and Clyde Canal.

Cube joined the Wheatley Group in 2012 allowing it to bring forward plans for hundreds more homes, including 300 in West Dunbartonshire.

The development is a mix of one and two bedrooms and nine of the flats have been adapted for disabled tenants.

Margaret Collins, 73, moved into her new home from Clydebank a couple of months ago and is delighted with the space.

She said: "There has been a lot of thought put into the design of these flats. My home is very comfortable and I feel safe here which is very important."

Liz Ruine, chairwoman of Cube Housing Association, said: "As well as living in modern, spacious homes, tenants will benefit from cheaper fuel bills.

"Our partnership with West Dunbartonshire Council is helping us build homes and communities which people are proud to live in."

Council leader Martin Rooney said the local authority is committed to improving local housing.

He added: "Our partnership with Wheatley Group is clearly delivering for residents across West Dunbartonshire.

"The council is investing £8m to build 121 new homes across the area as we constantly look to improve the housing stock available to our residents."
