DETECTIVES searching for an elderly woman today returned to the Glasgow street where she was last seen exactly one week on.

Janet McKay, from Knightswood, went missing on Wednesday and last spoke to her daughter that morning.

Glasgow Times:

The 88-year-old, who has dementia, was last seen in Dykebar Avenue by neighbours.

Despite a massive police hunt, no trace has been found of Janet and her family have spent days anxiously waiting for news.

Glasgow Times:

Officers today returned to where the pensioner was last seen in a bid to glean more clues and information.

Police said they had confirmed a sighting of her getting off the M11 First Bus on Glasgow Road in Clydebank at around 1.30pm on September 16, the day she went missing.

Chief Inspector John McBride said: "This is the first confirmed sighting of Janet since she went missing, and it would appear she's travelled to the Clydebank area.

"I need people in Clydebank and surrounding areas to help us, can you check your gardens, outbuildings, sheds - Janet may have taken refuge there.

"Although this CCTV sighting is a week ago, when she went missing, I need people to help us, cast your mind back, did you see a woman fitting Janet's description in those areas? Can you help with any information, however insignificant you might feel it is."

He said they were very concerned for her safety and wellbeing, given her age and vulnerabilities.

He added: "Her family are devastated and very distressed at her disappearance, and just want to get her home safe and well as soon as possible.

"We’ve been co-ordinating a number of searches in areas that Janet may be or have travelled to.

"But unfortunately these have proved unsuccessful.

"The support we’ve received from the local community and beyond has been a great help.

"And thousands of people have shared her image online along with the appeal.

"Officers have also been following up a number of reported sightings of Janet, regrettably none of these inquiries have resulted in Janet being traced."

Janet's picture will also be displayed at train stations across Glasgow and the West of Scotland.

Glasgow Times:

Meanwhile, bus drivers and posties have been briefed by officers and are also looking out for Janet.

CI McBride said: "We’ve been working closely with First Bus and other travel companies, as Janet is known to travel by bus around the Knightswood, Scotstoun, Glasgow city centre, Govan, Largs and Helensburgh areas.

"I’d like to reiterate our appeal to bus travellers to keep an eye out for Janet.

"A team of officers continue to work on this inquiry.

"We’ve also circulated Janet’s image and description to the charity Missing People, who have been able to issue this image to Royal Mail delivery staff via their handheld PDAs (personal digital assistants).

"They are arranging for her image to be displayed in their digi-boards in train stations.

"We’ve also circulated her image to Firstbus for bus drivers, for them to keep an eye out on their usual routes.

Earlier this week, Janet's distraught daughter pleaded with anyone with information to come forward and end the family's nightmare.

Rhona Walters spoke emotionally about the agony of not knowing if her mum was safe and well.

Police also issued new pictures of the jacket Janet was last seen wearing and her handbag.

CI McBride added: "Please look at the image of the jacket and the bag – do they ring a bell with you?

"Have you seen a lady matching Janet’s description wearing any of these items?

"Please contact police immediately on 101, as you may have vital information which could help us."
