MUSIC and comedy stars will come together this weekend at the Govanhill Baths to raise money for refugees.

Artists including RM Hubbert, Atta Yaqub, Jerry Boweh, Michael Cassidy, the Glasgow Philharmonia Orchestra and Janey Godley will perform at the Govanhill Baths on Sunday.

The event called Where is the Love is being hosted by the Baths’ Community Trust and former River City actor Tom Urie.

The idea to host the event came about after Tom posted a Youtube video about the refugee crisis which went viral.

In it he said he felt helpless and wanted to do something for the people suffering.

He said: “That’s when Uzma from Govanhill Baths got in touch and we came up with the idea to do this fundraising concert.

“There’s a lot of scaremongering in parts of the mainstream media about refugees. These people are not terrorists, they are families like you and me who have had to flee their homes because of conflict.

“I just wanted to do something to help.”

Tom said the multi-cultural event, which will be held in the empty pool at the famous building, will have something for everybody.

The money will be shared between three different charities supporting refugees in Glasgow and abroad.

Co Organiser Uzma Mir-Young said she hoped it would raise a “significant” amount of money.

She added: “I think everyone just wants to help end this suffering.

“As individuals we may not be able to stop endless conflict in places like Syria, Afghanistan or Eritrea but we can show our support for the victims if these tragedies.”

Tickets cost £20 or £10 for people without a job and children. They are available from http://m.bpt.me/event/2260283.

Meanwhile, a charity supporting refugees is urging anyone who can volunteer to get in touch.

Anna Matthews, vice chairman of Govan and Craigton Integration Network (GCIN), said the charity is looking for people to help with services.

They host a women's group, a homework club, a community flat and English language classes for refugees in the South Side.
