A pensioner has been reunited with his dog after having his car stolen with the dog sitting inside it and being set upon by a group of four teenagers.

The 54-year-old man was standing outside his Honda CRV at Willowbank Row in Edinburgh when four teenage boys came up to him.

One of the boys, thought to be around 15 or 16, pushed him over before another of the group got into the car and drove off, with the man's beagle dog inside it.

The two-year-old dog was recovered safe and well in the Redbraes Place area shortly before 2pm, after being found by a member of the public.

The car was last seen turning left onto Ferry Road towards Leith. The other three boys are thought to have run off or cycled away on bikes.

The four boys are described as white, and are all aged around 15 or 16. The one who drove off was wearing dark clothing with a hood up and was also carrying a backpack.

Detective Sergeant Lynsey Thomson said: "Fortunately the victim was not injured during this incident, but is obviously deeply upset at the theft of his car and his pet beagle.

"We are keen to hear from anyone who was in the Willowbank Row area at on Friday afternoon and remembers seeing anything suspicious.

"I would also ask that any members of the public, who spot a Honda CRV with registration number DN06 WND, contact police immediately.

"In addition anyone who can help us identify and locate the suspects should come forward."
