MEMBERS of a gymnastics club are jumping for joy after approval was given for their move to a permanent new home.

Dynamite Gymnastics Club currently runs classes out of four separate venues, but a decision at West Dunbartonshire Council’s planning committee has now paved the way for the move.

Councillors unanimously agreed to the change of use of a vacant industrial unit in Clydebank Business Park to allow it to now operate as a leisure facility.

Head coach Ellena Devitt said: “We are absolutely delighted and to now be able to have a permanent base means everything to the club.

"All the hard work of getting the premises ready for using starts now but it will be so worth it.

"The club has been going for about 12 years and this will help us to take it to the next level.”

The club, which has 14 coaches and more than 400 members, is currently at full capacity and securing this unit will allow them to expand membership and provide the specialist gymnastic equipment which is necessary for members to progress to higher skill levels.

The club is currently based at Yoker Sports Centre, but also uses Clydebank Play Drome and facilities in Easterhouse and Renfrew.

An after-school club at Gavinburn Primary, in Old Kilpatrick, is also run by the club as well as an adult gym fitness class.

Councillor Lawrence O’Neill, convener of planning, said: “I am delighted that the Committee unanimously agreed to this change of use which will allow Dynmaite Gymnastics to move into this unit.

"It is a well-run and growing club and by having a permanent base I’m sure it will now go from strength to strength.

"The premises has been vacant for three years, but now it will be used to provide a valuable service for the community.

"I look forward to hearing of all the success stories that are sure to come out of the club in the coming years.”

Provost Douglas McAllister, depute-convener of Ppanning, added: “This club has won a number of awards at various competitions throughout the years and offers a fantastic opportunity for children and young people from across the area to improve their life chances.

"It is important that we encourage people to get active, but being part of a club also offers a number of important social skills.

"By having somewhere to call home it will provide a secure future for Dynamite Gymnastics, which is great news for everyone involved with the club.”
