AN ARMED would-be robber demanded cash from staff in an Airdrie bookies.

Police said the man, who had a knife, went into Ladbrokes on Broomknoll Street at 9.30pm last night and demanded money from two members of staff.

He was dressed in dark clothing and aged between 30 and 40.

A force spokesman said the man was not successful in getting any money and made off towards Loudon Street.

Detective Sergeant Alex Clark, of Coatbridge police, said: "Thankfully no one was injured during the robbery, however, it was a very frightening experience for the staff at the shop.”

“Our enquiries are still at quite an early stage. We are analysing available CCTV and conducting interviews. I would appeal to anyone who was in the area of the bookmakers at the time of incident to contact police with any relevant information.”

“I would ask that anyone who has information about the man responsible or can help with our enquiries, please contact police via101. You can also contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
