Residents in a quiet street in Glasgow’s south side have spoken of their shock after a man was stabbed and left for dead on their doorsteps.

The 55-year-old who was in Battlefield to deliver food from a takeaway was brutally assaulted in Carmichael Place.

He then staggered into a tenement building on the banks of the River Cart, screaming for help.

One woman opened her front door to see “blood everywhere”.

The victim was rushed to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and medics have described his condition as “stable”.

Detectives are treating the attack at 9.40pm on Wednesday as attempted murder.

Police are hunting for two men wearing hooded tops who were seen running through a lane.

A team of officers are carrying out door-to-door enquiries and looking at CCTV footage.

One resident, who asked not to be named, said: “Someone stumbled in shouting that they had been stabbed and they needed an ambulance. The emergency services were there very quickly. There were also a lot of police officers and the entire street was cordoned off.

“When I opened my door and went downstairs there was blood everywhere. There were spatters as well as pools of it. I had to avoid it as I went out to my car. When I got outside the police wanted to know where I had come from. Apparently there was supposed to be an officer there to stop people coming out but I didn’t see them.”

A neighbour added: “We didn’t actually see anything but there was a lot of noise. It seemed to start outside then came inside the building.”

Another resident, who also asked not to be named, said: “This is a normally quiet area so it has shocked everyone. It’s just so awful. It’s even more distressing that it happened on our doorsteps.”

In a letter to residents, seen by the Evening Times, police said they want to speak to two men wearing dark coloured hooded tops who were seen running through a lane between Carmichael Place and Langside Road.

Detective Sergeant John Stewart said both men are white and in their mid-20s. One is around 5 feet 10 inches tall with a medium build. The other man is slightly taller with dark eyebrows and a “square jaw”.

DS Stewart said: “There appears to be no motive for this attack and it’s important we establish how the man came about his injuries.

“We are of course looking at CCTV images which may provide us with more detailed information, however I would like to appeal to anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident to get in touch with us - if you saw anything you think was a little odd then please pass on your information to officers.”

He added: “I would like to assure members of the community that a significant amount of work is being undertaken in this investigation and additional police patrols will be in the area to provide reassurance to local residents.”
