Glasgow shopping hub Silverburn has released a guide that could become a saviour for hordes of shoppers - the definitive collection of tips on how to take the perfect changing-room selfie - or the "chelfie," as it's becoming known.

The trend - favoured by a host of celebrity A-listers, such as Kim Kardashian and Miley Cyrus - has grown so much that the number of "chelfies" posted on Twitter has doubled in the past three months.

Research has also unveiled that one in seven shoppers under the age of 30 now rush to social media sites to seek online approval beofre buying every outfit.

But, do you know your "smize" from your "chelfie facelift"?  Worry not, these tips, from Silverburn and Debenhams personal shopper Rachel Lawler, are sure to help when you're feeling indecisive and ensure you get the perfect image to go with those all-important purchases.

Angle – "Ensure you take the photo from chest height or above: any lower and it could make you look disproportionate. Position your eye-line one third down from the top of the frame for the perfect chelfie. To remove any signs of a double chin you should always tilt your phone to a 45-degree angle."

Smize – "Every top model knows how to "smize" – thanks to Tyra Banks and the army of models who have strutted down the Britain's Next Top Model runway. Smizing is the supermodel technique of smiling with your eyes. To do this, slightly squint your eyes. Keep your smile natural, it shouldn’t be overly 'toothy', think Keira Knightley for inspiration."

Instant Facelift – "For an instant and painless facelift, when you are half –smiling you should touch the roof of your mouth with your tongue. This will help tighten the area around the jawline removing any sign of a double chin."

Details – "Always remove your camera case for that extra clear shot. Sometimes your phone cover can obscure the tiniest part of the camera lens disrupting the overall quality of your chelfie."

Filtering  - "Technology today allows you to enhance your (existing) beauty by filtering on Instagram. To keep your chelfie authentic, try to not filter the original too much. The Valencia filter is great to soften your chelfie and to slightly brighten it (in case the lighting in the changing room is a bit dark."

Sharing on social – "Facebook is still the most popular social networking site. So for the quickest opinions and feedback on your chelfie, after you have filtered it on Instagram upload your pic to Facebook. If you follow these simple tips you'll be bound to receive lots of likes and make a better informed purchase."

Lynne Butler, Marketing Manager at Silverburn, said: "The changing-room selfie is a brilliant way to get instant guidance from friends and family before making a purchase.

"More and more shoppers are relying on changing room snaps for feedback – rather than taking the item home, trying it on again and retuning it, which is very time consuming. However, just like the selfie – there are important 'do's' and 'don'ts' to getting it right!"

As an added incentive, shoppers also have the chance to win a designer bag from Fossil, worth over £100, and £150 gift card to spend in Silverburn by sharing a chelfie of them wearing their new Autumn purchases.

To be in with a chance of bagging these prizes, head to Instagram and Facebook and share your snap using the hashtags #AutumnFashionFix and #Silverburn.
