SCOTTISH Commonwealth Games gold medallist Daniel Keatings was at Glasgow Club Bellahouston to give a masterclass to aspiring gymnasts from across the city.

Daniel, 25, is aiming to represent Great Britain at the 2015 World Gymnastics Championships being held at the SSE Hydro from October 23 until November 1.

The two-time European pommel horse champion is an ambassador for Strathmore water which has been named as an official partner for the 10-day competition – the largest sporting event to take place on Scottish soil since Glasgow 2014 and the Ryder Cup last year.

Daniel, who also claimed two silver medals at the Games, said that the excitement was growing ahead of the final Great Britain team being announced on October 12.

Alongside fellow Scots Daniel Purvis and Frank Baines, he faces a nerve-wracking wait over the coming week.

"I always enjoy competing here because the Scottish crowd really gets behind you and that is important as a gymnast because it helps you raise your game," he said.

"Even if it is just by 1% – that is what gets you from fourth or fifth place and into the medals."

Strathmore will provide 144,000 bottles of water – more than 72,000 litres – to the record 615 gymnasts from 91 countries who are set to compete.

Councillor Frank McAveety, leader of Glasgow City Council, said: "Excitement is building as we approach the World Gymnastics Championships and we are delighted to have the support of Strathmore water.

"Preparation is everything for the competing gymnasts and this partnership with Strathmore will help ensure that they are in the best possible shape for competing on the global stage."
