A MOURNER was slashed across the neck as a brawl erupted at the wake for holiday tragedy teen Danielle McCallum.

The 18-year-old, from Greenock, died on Spanish party island Ibiza last month.

Hundreds of mourners attended the service for Danielle at Wellpark Mid Kirk, at 1pm yesterday.

However, an argument at the wake in the Tail O' The Bank pub escalated out of control and a 22-year-old man was attacked outside the venue.

Two groups of mourners hurled insults at each other inside the pub and it is understood they were asked to leave by staff.

Moments later, the victim was targeted and slashed across the neck with an unknown weapon.

A source told the Evening Times the pub was were Danielle's wake was being held and the injured man is understood to have been a mourner.

Police were called shortly before 7pm yesterday and the injured man was rushed to hospital.

He received treatment for neck injuries and was later released.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman confirmed officers had been called to a disturbance in Greenock.

She said: "A 22-year-old man was seriously assaulted in Ruend Street, Greenock at around 6.50pm on Tuesday October 6.

"Inquiries are continuing."

After the holiday tragedy, Danielle's family hit out at claims her death was linked to ecstasy.

Medics at the hospital told media outlets it was suspected she had taken MDMA.

However, her family said she had a fall before the weekend and had been recovering in her hotel room.

Her grandfather Andy McDonald said: "The whole of Scotland think she's died taking ecstasy tablets but it's not as simple as that.

"She had been taking painkillers all weekend. She was home alone most of the time.

"I feel like she's been shown in a bad light and there's no truth to it. She was a lovely, gorgeous girl.

"We won't know for months what caused her death. It'll be four to six months before they get all the reports back."
