The Forth Road Bridge and M90 have reopened following a closure due to a controlled explosion.

The road, and all approaches, were closed from 4.45pm until earlier this evening.

This followed the discovery of materials believed to be used in the demolition process at the site of the new bridge, the Queensferry Crossing.

Although there was no immediate danger to the public, a decision was made to dispose of these materials with the assistance of the Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit (EOD) and to close the road as a precaution during this time.

The Forth Rail Bridge also closed temporarily.

Police Scotland thanked the public for their patience.
