A MAN was rushed to hospital after a fire broke out in a house in Airdrie.

Crews were sent to the incident in Wester Mavisbank after a 999 call was made shortly after 4pm on Thursday.

Watch Manager Martin Cassidy said: "It took less than five minutes for a crew to reach the scene and thankfully the occupier had already gotten out of the building.

"We committed four firefighters in breathing apparatus to the property in order to tackle the fire and confirm everyone was accounted for.

"The fire was located within a ground floor bedroom and it was extinguished using a high pressure jet."

The man was treated at the scene before being taken to Monklands Hospital.
