Firefighthers took to the roof of a former Port Glasgow dental practice during an incident early this morning.

The Greenock Telegraph reports Two fire engines were called to a blaze at the disused Belhaven surgery on Brown Street, at the corner of William Street, before 6am.

Both town centre roads were closed by police and traffic was diverted during the operation.

William Street later reopened to vehicles but Brown Street remained shut for some time.

The former dental practice is set for demolition after the surgery relocated to Scarlow Street in January.

Firefighters appeared to be using a hose which was connected to a nearby hydrant.

The building is located next to the railway line but trains were still moving during the emergency operation
