THE son of missing Glasgow man John Murphy has hit out at claims his dad has "done a runner" and abandoned his family.

Father-of-five John, from Denniston, vanished five months ago after he failed to turn up to work.

His son, also John, slammed claims that John Snr ran away.

Glasgow Times:

He said: "People suggesting my dad's just got up and done a runner have absolutely no clue.

"No idea how much my dad has lived his life doing everything to provide for the family.

"Our family is my dad's life and he would never knowingly hurt us.

"Something drastic happened, whether it be a breakdown, taking not well or something else.

"Something went wrong that morning and he didn't just get up and leave us."

Glasgow Times:

It comes as relatives revealed John, 52, may have been spotted in the city centre at the weekend.

Police said they are aware of the possible sighting near Argyll Arcade on Sunday.

John left his home in Craigpark Drive around 7am on May 12 and headed towards Duke Street to catch a bus to work.

The 52-year-old did not arrive at his workplace and was reported missing by his family that evening.

Despite several appeals for information, from both Police Scotland and John's distraught family, his whereabouts remain a mystery.

A post on a dedicated Facebook page set up to help find John read: "There's been a possible sighting of my dad in town tonight near Argyll Arcade.

"The man's face was a lot skinnier which is of course expected given how long my dads been missing.

"His hair was also longer and grey with a grey beard.

"He's wearing a black jacket that looks too big for him with paint on it, carrying a Mac b bottle of water.

"When asked what bus he was getting he said 'whatever comes first'."

It is also thought the person who reported the sighting tried to take a photograph of the man, but he ran away.

A police spokeswoman said officers "are aware" of the possible sighting and "inquiries are continuing".

When he left home on May 12, John is believed to have been wearing a beige t-shirt, embroidered with Easthall Park's logo, a black jacket, black cargo trousers and black boots.

CCTV images showed him going in to a local shop in Duke Street at about 7am on May 12.

A few minutes later he emerged with a paper and appeared to be heading to get the bus to work.

However, he disappears from view and it is unclear where he goes next.
