A POPULAR eatery which closed down after only a year of trading is to reopen again this month.

Singl-end on Renfrew Street was a hit with food-lovers and trendy socialites in the city when it launched in October 2013.

Owned by the Pagliocca family, the people behind The butterfly and the pig. Singl-end was originally opened by son, Gianni Pagliocca, with guidance from his parents Michele and Josephine.

But Gianni and partner Jeniffer underestimated the venue's popularity and struggled to manage the busy restaurant with having two small children.

The stylish eatery will reopen on October 28, rebranded as a community cafe and bakehouse, offering a huge selection of freshly baked bread and cakes.

Gianni's dad Michele said: " We could not have predicted the popularity of Singl-end when we opened back in 2013.

"It was primarily run by my son Gianni and his partner Jeniffer.

" The place was nice and busy with a great atmosphere.

"The plan was to steadily grow the business however demand far exceeded our expectations and with two small children, Gianni and Jeniffer felt it was unmanageable.

"Rather than keeping it open and potentially comprising the food and service, we decided to close our doors and return when we thought the time was right."

Much of the new eatery's menu is inspired by the owners' Italian and Scots heritage, and includes home-made chutney and jams, gluten-free sweet potato bread, hand-made fennel sausages and rare roast beef.

The drinks selection also features Italian fine wines, specially selected rums, handmade Grappa, beers and ciders.

While the industrial feel of the old restaurant will be maintained, the new cafe will be updated with a softer colour and comfortable quirky furnishings.

Michele added: “We have dedicated team of food lovers at the helm, all passionate about food and discovering new ingredients and different methods of cooking.

“There has been huge awakening in the food world and we feel this comes across in the menu. It’s all about back to basics, cooking with raw ingredients and using plenty of flavours.”

Singl-end will at 265 Renfrew Street, Garnethill will be open on Mondays - Saturdays between 8.30am and 6pm.
