GLASGOW’S Lord Provost Sadie Docherty cuddles Johnny Strain to promote the opening of registration for Baby’s First Christmas later this week.

Proud mum Julie, 40, from Pollokshaws, joined the Lord Provost with four-month- old Johnny at St Enoch Centre today to publicise this unique Christmas occasion.

Registration for the Lord Provost's Baby’s First Christmas event will open on Wednesday at 9 am.

The popular occasion will see 1000 of Glasgow’s new-borns invited to special Baby’s First Christmas celebrations where they will receive a silver coloured trinket, a certificate and a Hamleys teddy, to mark the occasion.

The first 250 infants registered by their proud mums and dads can also look forward to having their picture taken with the Lord Provost in the City Chambers Banqueting Hall on Saturday December 5

Baby’s First Christmas is organised by Glasgow City Council and sponsored by St Enoch Centre. It has attracted thousands of babies and their parents since it began in 2005, and forms part of the city’s Glasgow Loves Christmas celebrations.

The Lord Provost said: “Mums and dads really look forward to Christmas with a new baby. I’m delighted to be able to offer this exclusive event, to mark a magical occasion, for all families.”

Anne Ledgerwood, General Manager of St Enoch Centre, said:”Christmas is a very special time of year for families, especially those celebrating a cherished new arrival. St Enoch Centre is proud to be sponsoring this event that we hope will give families memories to treasure for many years to come.”
