Singer Rod Stewart has said Celtic need Rangers back in Scotland's top flight for financial reasons.

The rocker made the comments during an interview on Alan Brazil's Sports Breakfast on talkSPORT today.

Brazil told Stewart that he couldn't wait for Gers to return to the SPFL, and the 70-year-old responded: “There’s something exciting about a Celtic-Rangers match.

“There’s no other game like it in the world as far as I’m concerned.

“We need them back for financial reasons, and also someone to play.

“With all due respect to all the other teams in Scotland, we need someone to give us a hard time.”

The Faces icon is promoting his new album Another Country, out on October 30 and will be back in Scotland next year to play two shows

During the interview, Listeners also heard Stewart sing Maggie May with Brazil.

Stewart also appeared on The One Show last night to a studio audience packed with Celtic fans.

The rowdy crowd managed to get a rendition of the club's famous Come On You Boys in Green chant as presenters Alex Jones and Matt Baker struggled to keep things under control.
