POLICE are warning of potentially "fatal" drugs stolen from an ambulance as paramedics helped a patient.

A green medical bag was swiped from the back of an ambulance outside Hairmyres Hospital as medics took their patient into A&E.

Officers are now appealing for witnesses to the theft and warning people not to touch the stolen adrenaline and Diazepam.

Sargeant Iain McAlpine, of East Kilbride Police Office, said: "The ambulance staff had arrived at the Accident and Emergency Department and had taken their patient into the hospital when the theft occurred.

“The drugs if used incorrectly or without medical supervision could be dangerous or even prove fatal.

"I would appeal to anyone who has been offered them to contact police as soon as possible.”

The East Kilbride theft occurred on Monday, November 23 between 5.30pm and 5.50pm.

The stolen bag is used by paramedics and contained ampoules and a liquid solution.

Anyone with information about the theft is asked to contact officers at East Kilbride Police Office via 101 or in confidence to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Officers are following a positive line of enquiry.
