THE first winners of the Clyde Trail challenge have been announced.

As told by the EveningTimes in July, to celebrate the first anniversary of Glasgow's Games, 22 life-size statues of the mascot made a return to Glasgow venues.

And city youngsters were challenged to track them all down to places such as Glasgow City Chambers, Kelvingrove, Tramway and Pollok Civic Realm.

Some 300 tickets for the Scottish Open Grand Prix were give out to youngsters who completed the trail.

Councillor Archie Graham, chairman of Glasgow Life, said: "Events such as the Scottish Open Badminton Championships offer the perfect mix of world class athleticism and fast-paced action alongside hands-on activities, to inspire Glasgow’s next generation of sports stars

“I’m delighted that we are able to create opportunities for Young Glaswegians to gain access to the city’s showpiece sporting events, enabling us to introduce the sport to a new audience.

“Congratulations to all of the young people across our city who spent their summer visiting some of our iconic and well-loved buildings to take part in the Clyde Trail Challenge and win tickets to such exciting sporting events.”

The Young Glasgow Clyde Trail challenge saw hundreds of young people follow a colourful Clyde trail across the city to mark the first anniversary of the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

On their epic adventures, young Glaswegians cracked clues to find Clyde at a number of the city’s cultural venues.

Intrepid junior explorers came face-to-face with a woolly mammoth at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, dodged footballs at Toryglen and made a splash at Whitehill pool in their bid to secure tickets to a number of the city’s showpiece sporting events.

Fresh from his epic city-wide adventure, Caleb McTaggart, nine, was reunited with the Emirates Arena Clyde as he was presented with family tickets to the Scottish Open Badminton Championships.

Caleb, from Knightswood, said: “I loved doing the Clyde Trail during the Commonwealth Games and was so excited when I found out Clyde was coming back.

"Finding the answers to the quiz was great fun and I was really happy to win tickets to watch the badminton.

"It was the first time I've ever watched a badminton competition.”

Last weekend's Grand Prix is one of the showpiece events in Glasgow's Year of Sport and some of the world's top players battled it out at the Emirates Arena.

A total of 278 competitors from 37 nations as far afield as Australia, India and Chinese Taipei and Mauritius descended on the arena to compete.
