HUNDREDS of campaigners are expected to turn out at a march against sexual violence.

Reclaim The Night, an annual event, will see activists gather in the West End and march through the city to raise awareness and protest against violence against women.

It marks the start of 16 days of action campaign against sexual violence, which runs from International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women today to International Human Rights Day on December 10.

Long-standing patron of Glasgow Rape Crisis, Scots writer Denise Mina will be speaking at the event, along with comedian Susan Calman who has recently joined the organisation as a patron.

Emma Ritch, the executive director of feminist organisation Engender will also address supporters.

Bosses at Glasgow Rape Crisis said the march helps to give a voice to victims of sexual violence, who are "often silenced".

As part of the 16 days of action, Glasgow City Council are to screen films tackling issues such as Female Genital Mutilation, sexual consent and domestic abuse as part of an exhibition at the GOMA.

The thought-provoking footage is to run alongside images at the gallery as part of the Hear Our Voices project.

ASDA in Govan has also agreed to print the Scottish Domestic Abuse helpline number on till receipts, and will host a free event with stalls offering advice from Police Scotland, local law centres and women’s support groups on December 3.

The Reclaim The Night march will start tonight at Ruskin Lane, opposite the Botanic Gardens at 6.30pm, and will proceed to the STUC office on Woodlands Road.
