Police are appealing for information after a man was seriously assaulted in East Kilbride on Tuesday.

At around 11pm, a 34-year-old man was approached by four males wearing masks in the Stewartfield Grove area, where they then assaulted him.

The victim was then chased into McLean Crescent.

The attackers, who were all dressed in dark clothing, left the scene in a dark coloured car, possibly a high performance vehicle.

Detective Inspector Kevin Jamieson from Lanarkshire CID is leading the investigation.

He said: “I believe that this was a targeted attack on the victim who has suffered serious injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment in hospital. This was a particularly terrifying ordeal for the man and enquiries are ongoing to establish any potential motive.

“After the incident, the car involved is believed to have made its way to the Brownrigg Road area of Slamannan in central Scotland. I would appeal to anyone who saw a car, or four men matching the descriptions, in either of these areas to contact police.

“Detectives are reviewing CCTV and carrying out door to door enquiries in a bid to identify those responsible. Additional patrols will also be in the area to provide reassurance to the public and I ask that people please approach them if they have any information or concerns.

“Anyone with information about this incident can contact officers via the 101 number or by calling the incident room, which has been set up at East Kilbride Police Office, on 01355 564 013.

"Alternatively you can get in touch with CRIMESTOPPERS on 0800 555 111 where details can be given in confidence.”
