They might have been rivals on the football field but Old Firm favourites Fernando Ricksen and John Hartson put on a united front at the Celtic v Ajax game at Parkhead last night.

Former Rangers star Ricksen, who has been diagnosed with ALS (motor neurone disease), was Celtic's guest of honour for their Europa League game against the Dutch giants.

And Celtic hitman Hartson took a chance to grab a selfie with the former midfielder.

He tweeted: "Let's put things into perspective..Bumped into this fella tonight..God bless him."

Ahead of the game, Ricksen, who spent six years at the Ibrox club, said on his official Facebook page, "I'm looking forward to go to tonight's game, Celtic v Ajax, at Parkhead.

"Many times I played there with Rangers as an opponent but tonight it's my first visit as a guest.

"I'm honored to be invited to this game and hope to see a lightning football match from both sides.

"I hope to get a positive reception tonight, like everyone has been supporting me in my fight against MND, since i was diagnosed two years ago.

"I want to wish both clubs , Celtic and Ajax, the staff, players and fans good luck for tonight."

Hartson also faced his own health battle when he was diagnosed with testicular cancer which spread to his brain.  The Welshman, however, has since said his treatement has been successful.

The image which was retweeted and shared by many has delighted fans despite Celtic losing 2-1 to Ajax.
