FOUR men were arrested after trouble broke out before and after Celtic's Europa League clash with Ajax.

Police say four men are the subject of reports to the Procurator Fiscal for alleged minor public order offences following the match - which Ajax won 2-1.

The men were arrested in or around the ground - one before, two during and one after the game.

Before the game, police ringed Ajax fans in Glasgow city centre.

Dozens of Dutch supporters were held in a tight circle of Police Scotland officers, assisted by riot vans and mounted cops, outside pub Walkabout on Renfield Street.

City Centre traffic was brought to a standstill as parts of Renfield Street, West Nile Street, Renfrew Street and Killermont Street were suddenly closed.

Officers marched the fans to Renfrew Street, at around 6pm, before taking them off along Killermont Street.

There were also reports on social media of trouble breaking out at the Hoops Bar in Gallowgate, with a number of people injured.

One fan tweeted: “Just been told that Ajax casuals tried to wreck the hoops bar, be careful out there as they are looking to start a riot.”

Others also described 'running battles.'

Police Scotland confirmed four men were seriously assaulted during a disturbance in the nearby Gallowgate area at about 7pm which also resulted in a number of bars being damaged.

The injured men were aged 52, 37, 27 and 25, and were taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary for serious face or head injuries.

Two of them are still being treated at the hospital, where staff describe their condition as stable.

Three other men sustained minor injuries but did not require medical treatment.

Detective Inspector Colin Hailstones said:"We are still at the early stages of this inquiry and would appeal to anyone who was in the area, who has mobile phone footage or any information that will help us with our inquiries to come forward to police.

"It would appear that this disturbance took place when a large group of men, described as being dressed in black with hoods and scarves covering their faces, tried to gain access to some of the pubs in the Gallowgate and started to challenge patrons within.

"This then developed and people spilled on to the street where the assaults took place.

"We have been checking CCTV in the area and have already spoken to people who were there at the time as part of the investigation for which there is a dedicated team off officers involved.

"People may think they have got away with it, but just because you may not have been arrested at the time doesn't mean you won't be identified and caught."
